Oleksandr Usyk and Andy Ruiz Jr. are the only two men to have vanquished Anthony Joshua in a professional boxing scrap. They claimed their respective wins as the underdogs and in pretty different ways. Ruiz Jr. stopped Joshua with thunderous blows during their first fight in 2019. Meanwhile, Oleksandr Usyk outboxed ‘AJ’ to claim a decision win on September 25.

The contrast between Usyk’s and Ruiz Jr’s performances prevailed even after the results of the fight. While Ruiz Jr was overjoyed as he became the first-ever heavyweight world champion from his country, Usyk seemed calm and composed after grabbing the heavyweight straps from Joshua.

Ruiz Jr’s win and loss against AJ became a sample for several people. ‘The Destroyer’ seemed overconfident after his win over AJ and partied hard. However, it cost him a loss in the immediate re-match. Joshua outboxed his opponent six months later and snatched away the WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO belts.

Usyk doesn’t want to see a similar fate and has reportedly hit the gym. Hence, he isn’t resting on his laurels. Meanwhile, Joshua, too, has begun visiting gyms in America.

The winner of the rematch can finally aim towards a four-belt unification bout. Thus, both the heavyweight boxers will have a lot on the line. For Joshua, another defeat can take him out of the current title race. So, it may intrigue him to stop Usyk, citing an interesting fight for the fans.
