

A former onetime Olympian has been arrested after he threatened to conduct a mass shooting inside a Florida gym. Azea Augustama was a member of the 2008 Haitian Olympic crew, but was defeated in his first fight. Since then he has not competed in any Olympics event.

However, he was recently taken into custody in Maimi and booked under three felony charges. There were two counts for threatening to organize a mass shooting and one count for threatening to do bodily harm. His bail has now been set at $3 million. According to TMZ his gym card was snatched after he got into a heated argument with another gym member.
Following this, he was escorted by the police to retrieve his belongings, which were not found in his gym. Later on, Augustama, took to social media and expressed his anger over his lost belongings. The affidavit obtained states that the former boxer made “threats to kill or do bodily harm with a firearm”.

Moreover, he even tagged his gym in a bunch of Instagram posts also including a purchase receipt for an AK-4, although the receipt was later deleted. The police were then notified about the threat and tracked Augustama to a pawn shop, where he deposited the gun for $150.

A look into the boxing career of Azea Augustama
The Haitian national had a decent boxing career despite it being very short-lived. Augustama had a professional record of 20-3 with 12 wins coming by way of a knockout. He even competed in the 2007 Pan American national games but lost in the quarter-finals.

He would then beat Mexican Ventura Vasquez in the all-important third-place match for the Olympic 2008 qualifiers. Following this, he would represent Hait at the 2008 Beijing games.

Augustama has dual citizenship with the United States and Haiti, as his parents have been settled in Florida since the 1990s. He was even able to compete in the national National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions as a non-citizen and won the tournament.
