It seems certain that he will be coming in his best shape yet for the Ortiz showdown. Notably, Ruiz will face Ortiz at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, on September 4, 2022.

The iconic Andy Ruiz transformation

Andy Ruiz Jr. has been on the heavier side for the majority of his career. Moreover, it was noted that the extra bodyweight at times hindered the former champ’s performance.

In fact, Ruiz admitted to putting on too much weight ahead of his rematch with Anthony Joshua. He said, “I think I didn’t prepare as how I should have, I gained too much weight. I don’t want to give excuses but I gained too much weight.”

It was reported that Ruiz weighed his highest after his loss against Joshua, stating that he weighed in at a whopping 310 lbs (22 st 2 lbs).

Ruiz went on to work on shedding his weight and improving his conditioning under the watchful eye of his trainer, Eddy Reynoso. He lost an impressive 27 lbs (1 st 13 lbs) ahead of his showdown with Chris Arreola.

Fans react to Ruiz’s improved physique

Boxing fans were intrigued to see Ruiz’s physique ahead of his bout with Ortiz. Moreover, many fans took to social media to share their thoughts on Ruiz’s physique update.

A few users pointed out that Ruiz posts similar photographs ahead of fights. But, ends up coming in much heavier.

However, user @Psncoins1 clarified their statement by mentioning that Ruiz’s picture ahead of the Joshua rematch was photoshopped. And that it was much harder to edit a video.

Meanwhile, a few users felt mentioned that Ruiz was a better fighter when he was heavier. In fact, user @DanielJBardsley even claimed that he liked ‘fat Andy’ better.

Additionally, user @dangggggggggg stated that Ruiz used to hit harder when he was heavier.

On the other hand, user @spartak_sloths added that Ruiz is a danger to fellow heavyweights when he is in shape.
