Over the course of his career, Mike Tyson has gone through numerous ups and downs both inside and outside the ring. However, if he had the power to see into the future, would his essence endure unchanged? Back in 1992, ‘Iron’ Mike was sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted on rape charges but later released on payroll. He was never the same after release, despite winning five fights in a row.
He was angrier than ever, something that became very clear during the bite-fight incident with Evander Holyfield. During one of the episodes of his Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson podcast, the former world champion even revealed that he was scared to face the world after coming out of prison. However, that confession was far from what Mike revealed during the Vault Conference Interview with Patrick Bet-David.

Mike Tyson claims life is a gift
During the interview, Patrick probed the retired champion with an interesting question. He asked, “What questions did you not have the answer to in your early 20s and 30s that later on you got the answer to?” In response, ‘Iron’ Mike revealed that he never expected to make it this long on Earth. So, he lives his life as if it were a gift from God.
“Well, I didn’t think I would live to be this old, so…I yeah, it’s a gift, so I live my life like that,” Mike told Patrick. Mike further elaborated that if he got something for himself – he would buy ten of them and share it with his friends. “If I wanted to get a car, I buy 10 of them for my friends; we just all live like we weren’t going to live long,” said Mike. While Mike might not have expected to live this long, here is why he was scared of the world after being released from prison.

‘Iron’ Mike did not want to go back to the ‘f**king Savage world’
In an episode of Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson from 2022 featuring Luis Rosado, AKA Blue Boy, the former world champion spoke about his experience in prison. ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ suggested he was happier inside the confinement of the prison than he was in the ‘savage’ world and feared he would be taken away soon.
“I only did three years. I’m scared to death. I heard the helicopters and everything come because now they’re gonna take me away from my comfortness back to this f**king Savage world, you know, and I was scared. That was really scary,” Mike said during the podcast. Given the fact that things went downhill for the champion after release, his fears weren’t baseless.
