Oscar De La Hoya has given an update on his opponent as he is set to return to the sport. The retired fighter won titles across six weight divisions while he was an active professional.
While teasing a Mike Tyson-esque return, he has now revealed his preferred opponent if he returns to boxing.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV on YouTube, the question of possibly fighting Canelo Alvarez was put to him. He responded with, “I’ve always prided myself on fighting the very best. And why go after the second best?” He added, “Why not go after the guy that beat him? Why not go after Mayweather, for instance? In a revenge fight. That’s something that’s very intriguing.”

With that, he confirmed that he has no intention of taking on current P4P star, Canelo Alvarez. Furthermore, a fight with old foe Mayweather would be a slightly easier comeback fight.
And given that it will be an exhibition, it could very well be a lucrative fight for both. It would also give De La Hoya the opportunity to avenge his defeat against the American superstar.

What if Canelo Alvarez calls out Oscar De La Hoya?
The former multi-weight champion had to answer on what would happen if the Mexican called him out. He replied with, “I would definitely think about it but you know, my eye is on a bigger prize”.
He took a sly dig at Canelo by saying there are still bigger names in the sport than Alvarez.

Canelo and De La Hoya have had their differences. These rumors are a result of the legal dispute between Alvarez and Golden Boy Promotions which left a big stain on the promotion company.
Many would think that De La Hoya would jump at the chance to take on Canelo. However, it is clear that the former champion has no interest right now. What do you make of this? Is De La Hoya just bitter about the dispute?
