Oscar De La Hoya Lauds Mike Tyson Ahead of His Boxing Comeback

Mike Tyson has been inspiring boxing fans ever since his debut. Even at 54, he stays on top with his antics and fitness. Recently, Tyson has discovered another fan who’s none other than the Oscar De La Hoya.

‘Golden Boy’ is gearing up for a boxing return.

In an interview with Sky Sports, ‘Golden Boy’ revealed how Mike Tyson served as an inspiration for his comeback. He also shed light on why is he eager to do so.

Tyson fought Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition fight. Though the fight ended with a draw on judges’ scorecards, ‘Iron’ got highly praised for putting on a terrific show after his long hiatus.

De La Hoya couldn’t stop applauding Mike. He said, “Mike Tyson did inspire me. Mike Tyson looked great. Mike Tyson proved and showed the world that age is just a number.”

He laid out his own plans to enter the sport once again and shed some light on his training and routine.

“I am gonna give myself the proper respect and training that I need to make my final decision. I am almost there but ya, he (Tyson) was a big inspiration and the only thing why I am doing this is because I miss it, I love boxing,” ‘Golden Boy’ concluded.

Is Oscar De La Hoya’s comeback worthy?

Oscar De La Hoya had one of the most celebrated careers in boxing. He’s ranked among the top stars of the sport. The ‘Golden Boy’ retired from the sport in 2008, post a loss to Manny Pacquiao. He’s 47 years old now and is not exactly a spring chicken.

‘Golden Boy’ has been frequently sharing his workouts and showcasing snippets of his old self. He has looked sharp in all of his training videos.

He’s left the sport more than a decade ago and since then boxing divisions have become highly stacked. Starting off right from a scratch will be a different ballgame altogether for De La Hoya. However, competing in exhibition bouts like Mike Tyson could aid him to achieve that fight momentum first.
