Oscar De La Hoya Responds to Floyd Mayweather With an Ultimatum: ‘Nobody Else Can Make it’

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather recently stated that he would be willing to make a fight happen between long-time rivals Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis by the end of the year. However, only on the condition that the fight takes place at 135 pounds.

When asked if Davis would be willing to move to 140 pounds to fight Garcia, he replied, “Absolutely Not” but said that a fight at 135 pounds could be done. As his statements hit front-page headlines, Garcia’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, responded to Mayweather by giving him an ultimatum.

After Mayweather dismissed the possibility of Garcia vs Davis at 140 pounds, Oscar De La Hoya fired back at him and claimed that he was the only one that could make the fight happen.

“So what do you guys think about me, okay? The promoter, right here, is the only one that can make Ryan Garcia and Tank Davis, what do you guys think about that, nobody else can make it,” he said in a video.

He also stated that he would make the fight happen by the end of the year and that he will talk to boxing promoter Al Hamon, also calling out Mayweather to make it happen.

Ryan Garcia, Tank Davis, end of the year. I will make it happen all right, just me. I will make it happen. Nobody else can make it happen. I don’t know who I have to talk to Mayweather or Al Hamon, I do not know, I’m gonna start making calls so but the only one that can make it happen is me and Ryan Garcia, Mayweather, let’s make it happen,” he added.

After Garcia’s dominant victory over Javier Fortuna, he claimed that he would like to continue to compete at 140 pounds instead of moving down. Moreover, he also called out Tank to fight him at 140 pounds, but the latter is yet to respond to Garcia’s offer.

Both Davis and Garcia are currently two of the hottest young prospects in boxing and are coming off spectacular victories. Not to mention, both fighters are currently at the peak of their careers in terms of skill and fame, and with both promoters looking eager to move ahead with a deal, a fight by the end of the year looks plausible.
