Who would have thought a one single fight could be blown so out of proportion? Even nearly a year later, people are still talking about it. Let’s rewind the clock back to April 2024! Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney squared off for their highly anticipated fight in New York. Everyone expected ‘The Dream’ to steamroll Garcia off the canvas. But what happened? 

The exact opposite! The pair had fought four times during their amateur careers, with a score of 2-2. The fight was supposed to decide who the superior fighter was. Garcia was coming off a loss to Gervonta Davis, and Haney was riding the high of his latest performances. When the bell rang, Garcia demolished Haney round after round, even scoring three knockdowns.

The fight ultimately ended with ‘King Ry’ winning the fight via majority decision. However, no one predicted that Garcia’s win was the start of a huge controversy. After the fight, Officials detected the banned substance Ostarine in Garcia, overturning the decision into a no-contest and suspending the Victorville native from the sport for a year—along with fines. Soon afterwards, Haney sued Garcia, alleging battery, fraud, and breach of contract.

Now, fast forward to this year, the pair reached an agreement stating that Garcia will fight Haney in a rematch, which will absolve him from Haney’s lawsuit. However, before the rematch, both Garcia and Haney will fight on a May 2nd card in New York against Rolly Romero and Jose Ramirez, respectively.

A rematch is expected only if both Haney and Garcia win their fights. However, Garcia’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, has claimed that the rematch will most likely not take place. Why? Let’s find out! While appearing in an interview with DAZN Boxing during the William Zepeda vs. Tevin Farmer event, he revealed the loophole that can stop the rematch from happening.

“I feel that Ramirez is gonna do a number on Devin Haney,” Oscar De La Hoya said during the interview. “We’re not gonna see Ryan Garcia-Devin Haney two. I believe [that] Ramirez will stop the show. I believe Ramirez will do a number on Devin Haney.”  While Oscar seems confident Haney will end up with a red notch after evading one against Garcia, what are the chances Garcia loses his fight? 

Tim Bradley has predicted the Ryan Garcia vs. Rolly Romero fight will end in a knockout

Hall of Famer Tim Bradley has weighed in on the upcoming showdown between Ryan Garcia and Rolly Romero, predicting a knockout victory for Garcia. Bradley believes Garcia’s signature left hook will be the deciding factor in the fight, exposing Romero’s defensive flaws. “I think Ryan’s gonna catch him with that left hook and it’s gonna be night-night,” Bradley told Fight Hub TV.

“I think Ryan has changed, definitely. I think his character has definitely changed, with the way he’s just playing it now. A lot more calmer, very respectful. Look like a real businessman now.” After witnessing Garcia’s behavior in the buildup to his fight against Haney, Bradley sees a calmer Garcia. “I respect that with Ryan, and I think he gonna be a lot more focused now… I think he’s going to win by knockout.”
