Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya will support his former prodigy Canelo Alvarez in his fight against Caleb Plant for the maiden undisputed 168 lbs championship tonight. Despite all the differences that have hampered their relation, De La Hoya is still in favor of the P4P king.

Following a professional split up in late 2020, De La Hoya and Alvarez went vile on each other. They both accused each other of complicating their professional relationship, which turned into in-ring call-outs in mere weeks. However, De La Hoya showed changes in his behavior pretty quickly.

The former world champion vowed to try working on regaining his goodwill with Alvarez. While Canelo Alvarez was already working as a free agent with Eddie Hearn by then, the Golden Boy Promoter tried to grab him back under the stable.

Oscar De La Hoya posted a collage of Canelo Alvarez on Instagram and called him the best of the era. He wrote, “Wishing good luck to who I believe is the best fighter in the world today, and the fighter of this generation.”

The efforts, however, haven’t been very fruitful. Canelo Alvarez has given zero importance to his former promoter and seems pleased to be in his current state. Since returning to action in December 2020, he has successfully bagged big fights and is on the brink of a career-defining phase.
