The tensions are high ahead of Saturday’s super fight between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia, with promoter Oscar De La Hoya adding fuel to the fire with his recent comments about ‘Tank’. Former six-division world champion and Garcia’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya recently voiced his suspicion over some of the activities taking place in Davis’ camp just two days before what many are calling ‘the fight of the year’ for boxing fans.

Despite acknowledging that Davis has put in the work for this fight, the boxing legend seems to believe that his team’s actions suggest a lack of confidence in his ability to win.

Oscar De La Hoya claims Gervonta Davis’ team doesn’t believe in him

In the pre-fight press conference, ‘The Golden Boy’ took some shots at ‘Tank’. He stated that maybe Davis was not ready for this fight and that his team doesn’t believe in him. “Maybe he’s not ready. I really believe that Tank’s team is worried he’s going to lose and when you’re a fighter, nothing feels worse than your team not believing you,” he said.

It’s not the first time that De La Hoya has been involved in pre-fight drama, but it’s clear that tensions are particularly high for this event. Both Davis and Garcia are undefeated and at the height of their primes, making this a fight that boxing fans have been eagerly anticipating for months. Moreover, the promoter was not shy to praise his client as the fight night approached.

‘The Golden Boy’ also had some high praise for Garcia as he went on to compare him with ‘Tank’ next. According to him, Garcia was a hungrier fighter who is willing to take on the challenge. He also pointed out that ‘KingRy’ agreed to every request or condition put in front of him without hesitation.

And then you look at Ryan, who’s hungry, so willing, so ready for this stage that he simply said yes to every request no matter what it was. That is a confident environment,” he added.

Oscar De La Hoya has already ruffled some feathers with his comments. He also highlighted the dehydration clauses and catchweight conditions allegedly used by Davis’ camp to protect their fighter. However, it’s not the first time that De La Hoya has been involved in pre-fight drama. Despite the drama, both fighters appear to be ready for the challenge. Garcia’s hunger and willingness to do whatever it takes to win has impressed many, while Davis has shown time and time again that he is a force to be reckoned with.
