The WBC super-featherweight title fight between Oscar Valdez and Miguel Berchelt ranked itself among the most thrilling boxing events of the year. The two Mexicans accrued massive applause for putting on one of the most intriguing shows in the sport. However, it was Valdez who came out on the top and dethroned his countryman to become the champion.

Right from the first bell, Valdez rallied over Berchelt with thunderous punches. He dictated every second of the fight with his unmatched power and ring management. ‘Alacran’ didn’t really have an answer for the power coming off Valdez’s hands. That said, he ended up losing the fight in round 10 by a vicious KO.

As per CompuBox, Valdez landed a whopping 103 power punches on his opponent. His speed and ferocious hooks were too much to handle for Miguel Berchelt.

The 30-year-old dropped ‘Alacran’ in round 4 and round 9 of the fight. Then ultimately in the 10th round, Valdez landed a mighty left hook to floor the champion. Post this knockdown, Berchelt was motionless and left the ring on a stretcher. Subsequently, he was admitted to a nearby hospital for further scans and reports.

Hospital Reports

Brett Okamoto of ESPN rolled out a piece of positive news for Miguel Berchelt’s fans.

He tweeted, “Great news, Miguel Berchelt’s CT scan was clear tonight after the KO loss to Oscar Valdez. He will be released from the hospital later this evening.”

Many big-wigs of the sport laid their notions on this fight.

Jamel Herring, the WBO super-featherweight champion, showed sympathy towards his rival Berchelt and tweeted:

“I know we’ve had our war of words in the past, but I’m praying for you @AlacranBerchelt. You fought your heart out and there’s nothing to be ashamed of, champ.”

Valdez adopted a dominating approach in this fight and created a magnificent plan alongside his coach, Eddy Reynoso, to overpower Berchelt. The duo had everything ready from plan A to Z and Reynoso’s fighter, certainly stuck to what he was supposed to with aplomb.

With Valdez bagging this title, Reynoso improved his decorated resume onto a different level. He already has boxers like Canelo Alvarez, Andy Ruiz Jr., and Ryan Garcia under his wing. They rank among the most established faces of the sport.

With a stunning win over Berchelt, Oscar Valdez improved to 29 wins. He is undefeated in his boxing run, and since he’s the champion now, Valdez has several opponents in hand. However, a fight with Shakur Stevenson will lure the fans.

After Valdez won, Stevenson took a chance to call-out the champion and set the ball rolling a big-money fight. He tweeted, “Congrats champ @oscarvaldez56 I respect what you did tonight surprised me.. It’s only 1 FIGHT to make now!”

A contest between the undefeated pugilists will be an intriguing stylistic boxing bout and has all the making of being an extremely action-packed one for casual fans.

What’s next for Miguel Berchelt?

Though Berchelt was a favorite in this fight, Valdez annihilated him. Despite this loss, he has a lot of teachings to take and employ in his next fights.
