Canelo Alvarez might have his next fight staged at either Mount Rushmore or Alcatraz Island.

The four-division champ has fought and headlined almost all over the United States. He has fought at Madison Square Garden, AT&T Stadium, Staples Center, MGM Grand, T-Mobile Arena, Minute Maid Park, and The Alamodome, among several other venues in America.

Due to the ongoing global pandemic, all fights are going to be conducted in the absence of a live audience. And this has opened up doors all over the world in terms of location for the fights. With promotions thinking outside the box, there are already numerous ideas flying around for new locations.

In what would be an unprecedented and unique idea, Alvarez’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya said he is trying to think outside of the box. He is even considering staging an outdoor Alvarez fight in front of Mount Rushmore or on Alcatraz Island.

Speaking with the Palm Springs Desert Sun, De La Hoya said, “You know, a venue like Fantasy Springs is very possible [for Alvarez’s next fight]. “It’s something we’ve discussed internally … There would be a lot of excitement. I always go back to relationships and Fantasy Springs has been an amazing partner. We love the venue and it’s convenient. The fact that the gate is irrelevant, it makes all the sense in the world.”

He added, “So if our options are Mt. Rushmore and Alcatraz and Fantasy Springs, I wouldn’t mind going to Fantasy Springs because it would be the most convenient for us because of our partnership with the casino.”

Though a location isn’t finalized, De La Hoya said we will know about it in the next couple of weeks.

Is Mount Rushmore an actual possibility for a Canelo Alvarez fight?

For a creative and out-of-the-box idea, Mount Rushmore and Alcatraz look like the right choice. However, from a convenience point of view, Fantasy Springs Casino makes the most sense. It is a gambling venue owned by the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians.

With live gate out of the equation, promoters have been looking for creative ways to stage fights. On Wednesday, Matchroom Boxing said that their return to the United States will be staged at a show in the streets of downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma.
