The most-anticipated marquee boxing event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas headlined by Canelo Alvarez, has come to an end. Apart from some glaring broadcasting errors in the showcase event which was promoted by the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), the overwhelming sentiment among boxing fans is that the fight card failed to live up to its high billing, with the PPV being priced at a whopping $90.

Furthermore, 451 tickets remained unsold at the event, resulting in a loss of approximately $466K in total gate revenue. On that note, boxing insider Rick Glaser has blasted the head of PBC, Al Haymon, for not even being present at the event to watch his stable of fighters.

Furthermore, Glaser took a dig at “PBC operatives” in the media who claimed that Al Haymon was “back” after signing a new deal with Amazon Prime to showcase their events. “Remember the “#AlHaymon’s back” line about 3 weeks ago from #PBC operatives to the media, well #Haymon was nowhere to be found at the #Canelo fight last night to watch his quickly aging stable. Just another lie by PBC,” he noted on X. Notably, the co-main event of the Canelo-Berlanga fight card consisted of two veterans of boxing—36-year-old Danny Garcia, and 41-year-old Erislandy Lara. The fight was very underwhelming, with both fighters looking sluggish.

Glaser’s comment was in reference to boxing reporter Dan Canobbio’s claim that “Al Haymon is back and PBC is planning a big end to 2024.” However, if the upcoming events are as dull and overpriced as the recently concluded boxing event on Mexican Independence Day, disillusioned boxing fans might show the red flag to PBC-promoted boxing events.

In June, Rick Glaser had stated that the PBC was “slowly going out of business” with many popular names in boxing like Terence Crawford leaving their stable. He also claimed that the promotion needs a deal with a new investor to save them from sinking.

“#AlHaymon & #PBC are now as one #Boxing Excutive said to me yesterday “Fast becoming irrelevant” And I replied “And slowly going out of business” He agreed, saying “Right now they’re just hanging on by a thread, praying for a miracle investor to come along, in truth PBC is doomed, not long for existence,” Glaser revealed in a post on X. Furthermore, Rick Glaser had earlier alleged that the promotions’s downfall could be attributed to multiple failed relationships with a list of broadcasters.

While these criticisms cast Al Haymon and PBC in a negative light, the organization continues to thrive in terms of staging major events. With high-profile fighters like Canelo Alvarez, Gervonta Davis, and David Benavidez still under their banner, their position in the boxing industry doesn’t appear to be under serious threat.
