In the exhilarating sport of boxing, high-profile fights are often met with eager anticipation, creating a whirlwind of expectation. However, when two mammoths of combat sports met in the ring on the last Saturday night slugfest, the numbers did not translate into what transpired inside the ring. The dust has finally settled since Francis Ngannou took on Tyson Fury, and the numbers clearly indicate that the fight was a PPV flop. What is even more disheartening is that it performed worse than the worst UFC event. Which fight is that? It’s the Amanda Nunes vs. Felicia Spencer featherweight title fight.

Before the fight had begun, many experts in the industry asserted it would be a bigger event than a similar event held between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. But on the contrary, a recent tweet from BJPENN suggests the opposite happened. The tweet read, “Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou reportedly didn’t do great on PPV.” As the tweet started circulating on X (formerly Twitter), fans poured in to give their two cents on the poor numbers from the event.

While Francis Ngannou defied all expectations to shock the boxing world, the fight’s PPV numbers failed to replicate the same. While some blamed the price, others criticized the card for being weak. However, the collective consensus implied the numbers were to be expected.

One user suggested that the price of the PPV did not align with the quality of the fights showcased on the card.

Someone else claimed that there were no good fights in the card besides the main card fight between Fury and Ngannou.

The next user wanted to see the numbers from alternate streams because, according to the user, the exorbitant PPV price was unjustified.

One user simply proclaimed that they could not care less for the Saturday night fight.

Tyson Fury on a potential rematch with Ngannou

As unexpected as Ngannou’s performance was, after the fight concluded, fans have speculated what’s next for Ngannou. While some claimed the split decision win for Fury was a robbery, others suggested Ngannou deserves a rematch. However, the question remained if Fury would agree to a rematch since Ngannou almost ruined his undefeated record.
