Floyd Mayweather may feel a certain way about it, but that didn’t stop Grammy Awards-winning rapper 50 Cent from training in Gervonta Davis‘ gym alongside Davis’s coach Calvin Ford. In an unexpected turn of events, an image of the popular rapper getting his hands wrapped from Ford started making the rounds on social media.

Boxing Kingdom shared the image with the caption, reading, “50 Cent Training at Gervonta’s gym”. Davis, of course, was the former protege of Floyd Mayweather and fought under the Mayweather Promotions banner at the beginning of his career until Davis cut ties with the promotion before his bout against Rolly Romero in 2022.

While leaving, Davis warned other boxers about signing with the Promotion. Since then, Davis and Mayweather haven’t really been on the same page, even though they appeared to have reconciled their relationship. Regardless, 50 Cent had issues with the five-division champion when they were both in their prime.

Interestingly, the duo once used to be thick as thieves, but their friendship took a turn for the worse after Mayweather was released from prison in 2012. 50 Cent claimed the millionaire boxer owed him some money, which started a back-and-forth between them. At the peak of their beef, the rapper claimed Floyd Mayweather couldn’t read, and asked if he could prove him wrong through a couple of videos.

In the first one, 50 Cent said, “If you can read one full page of a Harry Potter book n***a, I’ll give $750,000 to whatever charitable organisation you want.” In the following clip, 50 again took shots at Floyd suggesting Jimmy Kimmel has agreed to host the reading on his show, adding, “We don’t wanna put pressure on you, we know you can’t pronounce those words in that Harry Potter book, so we’re gonna let you read Cat In The Hat”.

While Floyd never read the Harry Potter books or the Car in The Hat publicly, he responded to the diss years later.

Floyd Mayweather finally responds to 50 Cent

In 2021, Floyd Mayweather appeared in the Champside podcast, reflecting on the field with 50 Cent. He said, “You can’t hang out with me every day for years then all of a sudden if I don’t give you half of my company you’re like, ‘You’re dumb, you’re stupid, you can’t do this and you can’t do that.’”

Mayweather further added that if the American rapper thought he could not do all those things, why was 50 hanging out with him for so long? “If I’m such a person that doesn’t know certain things, and I’m not that sharp, why [do] you want to be around with me every day?”, Mayweather said.

It’s also worth mentioning that even today, 50 Cent takes digs at Mayweather from time to time.

It’s unlikely that 50 Cent was training with Gervonta Davis’ coach to slight Floyd Mayweather, but undeniably, the situation is dropped with irony. What do you think about 50 Cent training with Calvin Ford?
