‘Please Take Me off Your List!’- Tyson Fury Rejects SPOTY Award Contention

Tyson Fury recently posted a message on Instagram and Twitter urging fans to not vote for him in the BBC SPOTY award. Fury has been nominated for the sportsperson of the year award in 2020. The event is scheduled to take place on December 20, 2020.

He said, “Hi, this is Tyson fury the gypsy king, this is a message for the BBC and their SPOTY award, please take me off your list as I’m the people’s champion and have no need for verification or any awards. I know who I am and what I’ve done in sports. The love of the people is worth more to me than all the awards in the world. To all of my supporters please don’t vote on this. Take me off the list.  All my love Tyson Fury, ‘The Gypsy King.”

Fury has been nominated for the award along with the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Stuart Broad, Jordan Henderson, and others. But, it seems that Fury doesn’t need the verification of the BBC and their award to prove himself. He believes he is the people’s champion. Furthermore, he doesn’t want his real fans to vote for him to win the award.

Why “The Gypsy King”  doesn’t want his fans to show their love and vote for him remains unclear, though. He has not specified anything particular as his reason.

2020 has been a historic year for the WBC, Lineal, and Ring Magazine heavyweight champion. He defeated Deontay Wilder via stoppage in their rematch back in February. Fans believed the duo would lock horns in a trilogy; however, the fight did not materialize for a multitude of reasons.
