“Practice Doesn’t Make Perfect” – Manny Pacquiao Gives Valuable Advice to Fans

Four-time welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao recently posted a black-and-white photo of him on Twitter. The picture seemed to be of a weigh-in and had an inspirational caption that said, “Practice doesn’t make perfect, Practice makes progress. Strive to make progress in everything you do life.”

The comments were flooded with appreciation and gratitude aimed towards the quote with many fans thanking the WBA welterweight champ.

Manny Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KOs) made his professional debut in 1995 and celebrated his silver jubilee in the sport in January. He is considered one of the greatest boxers ever in the sport’s history. Pacquiao is the only fighter to win titles in eight different weight classes.

He was the first boxer to win lineal titles in five weight classes and also the first to win major world titles in four of the “glamor divisions,” i.e., flyweight, featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight.

Manny Pacquiao’s last fight and potential opponents

Pacquiao had his last bout in July 2019 against the much younger Keith Thurman. This bout was for the WBA (Super) welterweight title, with Thurman being the champion. Although Pacquiao was the underdog going into this fight, he had a lot of support from the crowd being a fan favorite. Despite his size disadvantage, Pacquiao dropped Thurman late in the very first round with a quick combination.

The fight went on in favor of Pacquiao, who applied his usual pressure and busted Thurman up till the middle rounds. Thurman, however, seemed to adjust to Pacquiao’s timing and movement and started catching with hard shots after the fifth round. Pacquiao, however, hit Thurman with a hard body shot somewhere in the tenth round which left him gasping for air.

Two of the judges at the end of the fight scored the bout 115-112 in favor of Pacquiao while one judge scored in 114-113 in favor of Thurman. Pacquiao won the bout by a split decision and became the oldest welterweight in boxing to win a major world title. He also set a record for being the most multi-time welterweight champion with four title wins under his belt.

With Pacquiao seeking to fight again before the end of 2020, there’s has been a long list of potential opponents that have been on the list. Multi-division champions Danny and Mikey Garcia are some names in consideration. The speculations of a mega-bout between former UFC two-division weight champion Conor McGregor and Pacquiao have also been doing the rounds lately. Whatever it is, when it comes to Pacquiao, we know we’re always in for a show.
