Andy Lee, a trainer for Tyson Fury, weighed in on what the future holds for “The Gypsy King”.

The former Middleweight Champion described both the extremely crucial scenarios that lie ahead of the Brit. The rematch with Deontay Wilder and a possible title unification bout with Anthony Joshua.

Andy feels that it is very important for both Fury and Joshua to clear the obstacles that lie in their way before they face each other. While Fury has the contractual rematch with “The Bronze Bomber“, Joshua needs to overcome his next challenger in Kubrat Pulev in order to move onto Fury.

Andy also believes that unless Joshua beats Pulev and uses him as a sparring partner for the ultimate fight against Fury, his chances of winning the title unification bout will remain minimal. Andy said,

Joshua’s old style was that of a boxer/puncher and finisher and now being a boxer. Practicing that against Pulev, who is tall and the same stature as Tyson, would be a good move for him. Joshua’s old style of fighting in which he would rush his opponents and look to bang them out will be a far better style against Fury than if he attempts to box him. If Joshua tries to outbox Fury, he’ll be barking up the wrong tree. That would be playing to Fury’s strengths, and it could end badly for AJ to try doing that.”

Lee believes that if AJ can go up to a level where he can experiment with new things on Pulev, it will prepare him pretty well for Fury. Thus, AJ should try and drag the fight for as long as possible so as to experiment in a professional match against someone whose physical attributes are pretty close to those of Fury’s.

Per Andy Lee, Deontay Wilder will be back in better shape if a third fight with Tyson Fury materializes

Lee, too, didn’t really find it admirable for Deontay to make up an excuse regarding his costume. However, he does believe something was wrong with Wilder in the rematch with Fury. He said,

“I’ve watched the fight several times, and his balance did not look good to me. I know he’s had a lot of excuses, but maybe there was some issue. I think he definitely got his eardrum busted, which would affect your balance.”

Offering his piece of advice to Wilder, Andy Lee said, “He has to try and be more aggressive and improve his balance. Which is not an easy thing to do. He was taken aback by Tyson’s pressure. When a big man is coming at you like that, it feels like you’re in quicksand. It’s something he needs to be working on now. Even when there is nothing happening. I heard they are bringing Joe Goossen into his camp. That would be a good move. He’s a good, respected trainer.”

Even though Wilder is aching to get his rematch ASAP, the coronavirus has put all sports operations on hold.

Do you agree with Andy Lee’s views? Will Wilder rise after improving his shortcomings?
