The latest training video of Mike Tyson has drawn attention from all over the sporting world and beyond. A few weeks back, ‘Iron Mike’ expressed his desire of making a comeback for exhibition bouts. Following the same, Melbourne boxing promoter Brian Amatruda has come up with an offer for Tyson.

After watching the video, Brian immediately picked up the phone. He called up celebrity agent Mark Markson to bring Tyson to Australia. He even has some opponents in his mind who will be more than willing to step into the ring with the former champ.

Barry Hall, Paul Gallen and Sonny Bill Williams are the potential opponents that Amatruda has in mind. All of them are former names famous in Australian rules football or rugby league.

Moreover, all of them have made a crossover to boxing in recent years.

“I’d hold it at Melbourne Arena where we’d get over 10,000 or even Princes Park where they got 30,000 for Jeff Fenech versus Azumah Nelson,” Amatruda said to Daily Mail.

“He might be 53 years old but he’s still a huge name and any of those blokes Hall, Gallen or Sonny Bill would jump at the chance to get into the ring with him. I’d make it part of a card with a world title fight for Tayla on it. It would be enormous. Not just a fight, it would be an event.”

The biggest hurdle in getting Mike Tyson to Australia

The news of Tyson‘s comeback sparked some extreme proposals for him. He was offered $150 million to fight current champ Tyson Fury. While this proposal was certainly over the top, the offer to fight in Australia is much more realistic.

However, there are certain roadblocks in that path too. Tyson’s past criminal record could prevent him from getting a visa for Australia. This is where Amartruda brings in celebrity promoter Mark Markson.

“The first thing I did was contact (celebrity agent) Max Markson and ask him to offer Tyson $1 million. Max brought him to Australia in 2012. He gets on well with him and his wife but the main thing is that he got him a visa to get into the country back then and that’s the key,” Brian added.

Apart from the obvious legal hassles in acquiring the visa, Brian will also have to wait for the pandemic to subside. Keeping aside these two factors, it is only Tyson’s willingness that stands in the way of him fighting down under.
