The relatioship that the five time world champ in three weight class Gervonta Davis shares with Floyd Mayweather now is the result of the differences on promotion scale. But there was time when Davis was the fighter ruling Mayweather’s heart. He was his protege, fighting under Mayweather Promotion and was following Mayweather’s footstep. Basically wherever, the 28-year-old is standing, Mayweather has played vital role in his rise to the top. The former five weight division champ signed Davis when the latter just turned pro. Since then Davis has secured 25 knockouts in 27 straight wins.

For a notable period from 2015 to 2022, Davis was Mayweather’s shadow. The latter was walking him to the ring and even giving voice to ‘Tank’ in the interviews. There are several brief clips of it on the internet. One such video recently surfaced on Facebook and caught fans attention because in this rare interview Mayweather sitting alongside Davis is annoucing that the latter is going to take over the sport.

He said, “Floyd Mayweather- I want to say this for the record. I don’t know if this has ever happened before. This is the third undefeated opponent that he’s fighting. Third in a row. Um he fought the world champion who was undefeated. He fought as mandatory and went into and went to his backyard. Meaning he went to his opponent’s country and beat him. Now he’s fighting another undefeated guy. So I mean he’s making noise.”

No doubt, in the current realm of boxing, Davis is making noise. His fight against the arch rival Ryan Garcia which will take place in the T-Mobile Arena on 22 April has electrified the atmosphere. As of now, boxing pundits are dubbing it as the biggest fight in boxing.
