Boxing legend Muhammad Ali did a lot of things that would be considered impossible for a normal person. The former heavyweight champion was a man of the people standing up for his beliefs no matter what the social norms were. However, he also made some mistakes in his life that he regretted a lot later. His daughter Laila Ali shared such regret her father had that haunted him in his life.

Ali was close friends with another pioneer in the civil rights movement Malcolm X. Despite their initial friendship the relationship between them would turn sour as the former friends grew apart from their initial beliefs. Moreover, Laila even shared a quote from her father that described how he regretted his mistake.

Laila Ali shares her father’s regret

The former champion took to Instagram and shared a photo of Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X. In the caption, Ali described how turning his back on his friend was the biggest regret of his life.

Moreover, he added that his only wish was to say sorry for his mistakes and went on to praise Malcolm X for his contributions to Black Civil rights. Moreover, he even claimed that if he could go back in time, he would certainly do things in a different way to retain their friendship.

Laila also shared her thoughts on this and stated that such regrets haunt people for life. “Regrets Are the Worst,” she wrote. Ali’s daughter also has some regrets like her father which she has detailed in multiple interviews. However, to move forward in life one must leave regrets in the past which ‘The People’s Champ’ wasn’t able to do.

Ali and Malcolm X met at a ‘Nation of Islam’ rally in 1962 and quickly turned close friends. Moreover, the two united to fight for civil rights in the nation and were backed by a common ally. However, Malcolm would have a fallout with the Nation of Islam following the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963.

This resulted in the Nation of Islam telling Ali to end his friendship, as he would after criticizing Malcolm and claiming that he deviated from the teachings of the group. However, as we all know Ali would reveal that this was his biggest regret which he could never let go.
