Mike Coppinger from The Athletic was the one who confirmed that it was never on the cards. The reporter took to his Twitter to share the update about the fight being an ‘internet rumor’. In addition, he termed the talk of a bout between the two as ‘fake news’.

This news will disappoint fans who want to witness the big fights in the sport. The trend in the sport is slowly changing, with Canelo Alvarez chasing the undisputed title in the super-middleweight category. The Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury fight is another example of the same.

Unfortunately for fans, we will not see the same in the middleweight division. Although with the situation boxing finds itself in, you never know what will happen next.

Can Gennady Golovkin vs. Jermall Charlo happen in the future?

Despite Coppinger confirming that there were no talks, it does not rule out the possibility of it happening in the future. Both fighters are champions and big names in the division. Therefore, it would undoubtedly be a lucrative fight.

Moreover, Golovkin is not getting any younger and at 38, he will want to get a few big fights before he calls time on his career. Meanwhile, for Charlo, it would be the perfect preparation on his way to a potential bout against Golovkin’s old-foe, Alvarez.

Therefore, as the Joshua-Fury fight sprung into focus out of nowhere, the ‘GGG’ vs. Charlo bout could also follow a similar suit. However, the chances of it happening this year are slim.

What do you make of this news about ‘Triple G’ and Charlo? Do you want to see the two fight each other?
