On November 15, 2024, Jake Paul fought against 58-year-old Mike Tyson in a historic, yet controversial, fight. The professional match annoyed many in the boxing community, as their idol growing up was reduced to a shell of his former self. Boxers like Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia, and Nico Ali Walsh were evidently angered by Jake Paul and his win against Iron Mike as they challenged ‘The Problem Child’ right after the fight.
As the day passed, more and more world champions started challenging Paul, including the likes of Daniel Dubois and Artur Beterbiev. However, none of the challenges was as audacious and surprising as when women’s WBC heavyweight champion Claressa Shields claimed that she would defeat Jake Paul if they ever fought each other. While the two-division undisputed champion believes she can defeat ‘El Gallo’, a sparring clip from 2018 has been shared once again, much to her dismay.

Jake Paul is not on the same level as her, says GWOAT
In an interview with DAZN boxing a few days ago, Shields indirectly issued a new challenge to Jake Paul and declared, “I would beat him in a fight, and you know that,” She added that she would without question face Jake Paul with 10-ounce gloves and no headgear if the opportunity presented itself. While she acknowledged the fact that Jake Paul will be slightly more powerful because of genes, according to her, that won’t be the only deciding factor. “The biggest and strongest man doesn’t win all the fights. So what’s the difference here? I’ve been boxing for 18 years,” she contended.
Shields further stated that the 27-year-old is far inferior to her in terms of boxing skills. “What about the skills I have? That doesn’t matter? He’s got to be able to break me down, and he has to be able to hit me. I’ve got to be able to break him down, and I’ve got to be able to hit him. It’s certain things that I can do, that he doesn’t even know yet,” claiming that she has various tricks up her sleeves that Jake Paul has no way of countering because of his lesser experience.
If it continues this way, boxing’s own ‘Battle of the Sexes’ is not too far away. Adding fuel to the fire, recently, ‘Happy Punch,’ a combat sports page on ‘X’ posted the particular snippet of GWOAT’s conversation on DAZN boxing with the caption, “Claressa Shields said she’d BEAT Jake Paul with 10-ounce gloves and no headgear…..” along with the emoticon, “😬.”
However, an old nightmare came back to haunt the two-time Olympic gold medalist when a fan replied to the post with a clip of Claressa Shields’s old sparring video with a male boxer. And suffice it to say that the GWOAT won’t like it as it directly contradicts her claims.
Claressa Shields’ blast from the past
As soon as Happy Punch posted the clip, an ‘X’ user, ‘LoRd NaGy’ replied with an old sparring clip of the WBC Heavyweight champion against a Russian male boxer Arturs Ahmetovs. The clip featured Shields getting knocked down by a quick left hook from Ahmetovs. The caption read, “Last time Claressa Shields sparred a man, She didn’t have 10 oz gloves. She did have headgear. This is what happened to her! What would she do differently to Jake Paul?” claiming that if the 29-year-old can’t hold her own in a sparring session, how would she fare better against Jake Paul?
What’s your perspective on:
Can Claressa Shields really outbox Jake Paul, or is she biting off more than she can chew?
Have an interesting take?

For those who may not know, the 2018 sparring clip began circulating on the internet last year. It completely rattled the Flint native who fired back at Ahmetovs claiming that Ahmetovs had no padding in the gloves he had used.
“Let’s BFFR & yall lames keep posting when the glove cheat dropped me 6 years ago… He had little to no padding in his gloves, tell that b*m post all our sparring! Cause I literally got back up, sparred him another rd! Then went 4 more rds with another professional man fighter! Y’all can’t FK with me on my worst day!!” added GWOAT, clarifying the situation. The Flint native further added that ever since that incident she has always ensured to check the gloves of her sparring partners.

However, as much as Shields thinks otherwise, the evidence suggests that it won’t be that easy to defeat Jake Paul despite Claressa Shields being probably the most skilled female boxer ever. Paul has been working on his craft and slowly and steadily has been improving with each passing fight. Furthermore, even though Paul is not a seasoned fighter, he has fought against some of the biggest combat sports figures. While he does not possess the same skills as her, he can surely hold on to his own.
