Campbell started off aggressively, putting the pressure on Martinez as soon as the bell rang. This fighting style runs in the Hatton family. Martinez, who took the fight on six days’ notice, kept quiet for the first round but pitched his punches well.

He exposed Hatton’s defense, landing two straight uppercuts clean on the chin. In the very first round itself, after landing clean uppercuts, Martinez started talking trash to Hatton as he gained some confidence.

Sonni Martinez seemed unfazed by Hatton

Going into the second round, Martinez seemed unaffected by the pressure Hatton applied. Martinez picked his shots well, whereas Hatton just kept applying relentless pressure.

The third round went the same way as Martinez started dancing around, connecting his shots well and countering well. While Hatton kept eating hard clean shots as he kept pressuring in a clumsy manner.

Martinez continued to land the uppercut almost at will. Toward the end of the fifth round, Hatton looked exhausted as Martinez unloaded a barrage of punches and taunted Hatton, lifting his hands up in the air.

In the last round, Martinez slowed the pace of the fight, feeling confident that he would win the fight on a decision. Well, he thought wrong, as the referee surprisingly awarded the decision in favor of the Brit. Even the home crowd booed the decision.
