Mikey Garcia, in his illustrious boxing stint, expressed his interest in fighting Manny Pacquiao many times. He even transitioned to Pacquiao’s prime weight class, welterweight, but couldn’t secure a 12-round war with the veteran. A few months back, his team was also in sheer talks to stage a fight with the Filipino Senator. However, it was all in vain.

Recently, Mikey Garcia’s trainer, Robert Garcia, in an exclusive chat with Fight Hub TV, addressed the Pacquiao vs Garcia situation and revealed why the fight didn’t happen.

He said, “We almost thought it was already a done deal. Mikey pretty much thought it was a done deal. That’s what we’re still you know we do mates, that’s right a hundred lefties because we don’t even know who we’re gonna fight but at the end you know, it didn’t happen, Pacquiao made that decision, it’s not like we made, we decided not to.”

Pacquiao didn’t compete after July 2019, and Garcia kept on fighting. The latter was optimistic about giving the Filipino Senator a return fight in 2021, but the veteran got lined up to face the WBC and IBF champ, Errol Spence Jr. instead.

However, a fight between Spence Jr. and ‘Pacman’ fell through as the former injured himself. Now, the 42-year-old will face Yordenis Ugas instead of ‘The Truth’. And with this, the possibilities of Mikey Garcia fighting Pacquiao seem to be diminishing.

Despite that, he has a lot to cherish and has a lot of positives to take out of his career until now. But waiting for Pacquiao just doesn’t seem to benefit him. This is because Pacquiao (42) is himself lined up for a fight now and it may be his swansong.
