Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero has never been shy about his disdain for Devin Haney, and that animosity only grew after Haney’s underwhelming performance against Jose Ramirez earlier this month in Times Square, New York. Now, Romero is doubling down on his criticism, taking fresh shots at ‘The Dream’ over the PED controversy that led to Haney’s April bout with Ryan Garcia being ruled a no-contest.
You see, the thing is, while Romero shocked the world by dropping Garcia in the second round en route to a unanimous decision win, Haney crawled to a unanimous decision win over Ramirez on the undercard. The 26-year-old avoided engagement and remained hyper-focused on running away from action throughout the fight, setting the record for the fewest punches landed in a 12-round boxing match in 2025, and 4th fewest in CompuBox’s history.
This led Romero to shame Haney, stating, “Did he just run? I was trying to warm up for a fight [watching Haney-Ramirez]. You almost made me go to sleep.” He also mentioned on another occasion, “Haney wasn’t a big fight to begin with. He wasn’t a big fight when he fought Ryan. And he’s definitely not a big fight after he just became a track star.”

Now, weeks after the mind-numbingly boring action in New York, Romero is targeting Haney’s defense that Ryan Garcia cheated by taking PEDs to beat him. “Did the PEDs really make it so Devin couldn’t keep his hand up? Oh, Ryan cheated so bad[ly], Devin couldn’t keep his hand up,” Romero mocked during a recent Instagram live session.

It’s worth noting that Devin Haney had sued Garcia, alleging battery, fraud, and breach of contract after the Victorville native tested positive for Ostarine during the April fight last year. The pair had come to an agreement that they would fight in October if they defeated their respective opponents on May 2nd.
Since Garcia couldn’t beat Romero, that fight doesn’t seem to be happening. Meanwhile, Oscar De La Hoya, Garcia’s promoter, has confirmed that they will pursue a rematch against Romero. Although Romero has expressed his desire to fight eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao, who is making a comeback to boxing after nearly four years of retirement, against Mario Barrios.
While it’s clear Romero is no big fan of Devin Haney, that’s not the case for Ryan Garcia.

Therapy, he said, helped him confront his demons, “Being able to admit that you have a problem makes you a f**ing man.”

Romero, once skeptical of Garcia’s mental health break in 2021, said he had a change of heart, “That’s when something hit me… this motherf***er is not bulls***ing.” He reached out personally, telling Garcia, “Some things in life are bigger than boxing.” Their long-standing rivalry shifted into something more respectful. “There’s no real beef,” Romero said. “I know there are demons in all of us.”
