Many fans are still coming to grips with the fact that after dreaming of it for years, we are finally getting the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight. A fight that was almost snatched away from the fans by Jake Paul is now confirmed thanks to His Excellency Turki Alalshikh. But ever since the announcement, the matchup has divided the boxing world, with one half believing in Canelo’s victory by a landslide and the other half certain of Bud Crawford’s ability to pull a rabbit out of the hat in the fight.

Now that the duo is ready to lock horns in September, everyone wants to know the consensus regarding the fight. The fight has already attracted attention from almost every expert and on Thursday, Roy Jones Jr. also shared his verdict on the fight. And let’s just say, his opinion might offend a few.

Canelo Alvarez has to do his thing

In a recent conversation with FightHype TV, the former four-division champion claimed that despite what other people think, “It’s a great fight for boxing.” He knows that “people don’t agree with it,” and consider it a one-sided bout where Canelo Alvarez is the heavy favorite.

However, the former unified light heavyweight world champion thinks that it will be a lot closer than everyone thinks. Despite Cinnamon being a clear favorite, “if Canelo fights one intent of the wrong fight, he gonna lose.” According to him, even if the Mexican legend “comes out, fights, the right fight, (it’s) going be a tough one,” and hard to predict.

Roy Jones Jr. added, “So right now I think it could be either way but it depends on what type of fight Canelo fights.” The verdict shared by the former four-division champion is starkly different from what other experts have been saying. The majority has their winner decided be it either Canelo Alvarez or Terence Crawford, a chart on which Canelo is massively leading.

Although the consensus believes the weight discrepancy has already decided the fight’s outcome, Roy Jones Jr. disagrees.

Terence Crawford definitely has a chance

Last week the Pensacola native sat down with The Ring for a candid conversation. He claimed that “the weight won’t be a factor,” in the upcoming dream bout as much as people think it will. According to him, the only thing that will matter is “how Canelo chooses to make the fight.”

If the Mexican star stays true to his game plan and “comes out and does what Canelo should do,” it will be an easy victory for him. However, if the unified super middleweight champion makes even a bit of a mistake, Terence Crawford would capitalize on it and sweep an upset. “If he comes out and does what he shouldn’t do, Crawford wins the fight,” declared Roy Jones Jr. confidently.

The g6-year-old wants Canelo Alvarez to use his size and strength. The Mexican star should focus on applying pressure and use his famous body shots to rack up the points. If he tries to outbox Terence Crawford and starts being too cautious, the Nebraskan fighter will engulf him and torch him.

Well, the suggestion can’t be wrong if it comes from a fighter who has conquered four divisions. So, it looks like Canelo Alvarez has a plan already laid out for him. Will he follow it or will find his own way, we will see that in September. Let us know your thoughts down below.
