Boxing News: Roy Jones Jr. Responds to UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya’s Shout-Out

After Israel Adesanya demolished Paulo Costa at UFC 253, he quoted one of the greatest boxers ever, Roy Jones Jr. Surprisingly, Jones Jr. took a note of it and responded to the shout-out on his Instagram.

The build-up to the fight was tense as both opponents took shots at each other at every chance they got.

The fight started with both fighters taking a very cautious approach. This was very unusual for Costa, as he is known for his high-pressure fighting style. Adesanya eventually picked Costa apart with leg kicks and finished him.

The fight was one-sided, with Adesanya showing his experience as an elite striker. It was also a major landmark for Adesanya as he secured his hundredth victory in his professional combat sports career. This fight reminded fans of his abilities inside the cage.

In the post-fight interview, Israel Adesanya gave a shout-out to the legendary Roy Jones Jr. by quoting one of his famous lines – “Y’all must have forgot.” The former four-division boxing champion shared the clip of Adesanya on his Instagram story, acknowledging the shout-out.

Roy Jones Jr. (66-9, 47 KOs), is widely regarded as one of the greatest pound-for-pound boxers ever. He had his last fight in 2018 against Scott Sigmon, where he won by unanimous decision.

After being away from boxing for over 2 years, Jones was recently finalized as Mike Tyson’s opponent for the latter’s return to boxing after 15 years.

The two will meet in the ring for the very first time, although Jones has fought at heavyweight before. The fight was set to take place in September initially. However, to maximize the revenue collection, the date was shifted to November 28.

The two veterans of the sport will face each other for eight rounds in an exhibition match. A lot of people are expected to tune in.
