Roy Jones Jr. Rubbishes Talks Regarding Vasyl Lomachenko’s Deteriorating Speed

Boxing royalty Roy Jones Jr. spoke to Fight Hub TV and previewed an upcoming bout that has fans excited.

The IBF lightweight title will be contested for between Vasyl Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez in a blockbuster matchup. The bout is set to take place on October 17 in the MGM Grand Conference Center in Vegas.

The winner of the bout will position himself into the realm of more lucrative fights. Not to mention, the massive elevation of the boxer’s profile that comes with such a high-level chess match between two ace fighters is significant.

Roy Jones Jr. does not believe Vasyl Lomachenko is getting slow

The iconic former champion in Roy did a thorough analysis of the matchup while also addressing a key narrative going in for Lomachenko. ‘The Matrix’ will have to be extremely comprehensive in his approach against Lopez and Jones recognized that. Moreover, Roy Jones went in on the narrative that Vasyl Lomachenko was getting older and slower.

“People always say that. You start to show your age when you lose and you start to slow. He’s not slow, he’s not losing, so why’s he showing his age? The only thing showing his age is his birth certificate. How can someone tell me Lomachenko is showing his age?”

The former multi-divisional champion touched on the Jorge Linares matchup against ‘Loma’ that sparked the debate. Chiefly, he believes that certain shots might be fight altering to any fighter, regardless of age.

“He looks the same damn way every time you see him. Just as fast, just as busy, throwing just as many punches. How is he showing his age? Because that one guy knocked him down?

“That would have happened the first day he started boxing as a pro. Linares caught him with a good shot, that’s just a good shot. That ain’t showing your age.”

Roy Jones Jr. says weight is the issue

Jones was fired up about the criticism that the former Olympic gold medalist has drawn as of late. The situation seemed like an open and shut case to Roy, who explained that fighting at a higher weight class comes with its complications.

“He’s fighting bigger fighters! He moved up to 135. He’s really a 130 pounder duh! Of course, he’s gonna struggle with these guys. They are bigger than him, duh!”

The fight itself has the possibility of being one of the best that this year has to offer. There is no doubt that Lomachenko will have his hands full against the crafty Teofimo Lopez.
