Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. is no stranger when it comes to competing in the heavyweight division. Despite coming from a lower division and being significantly smaller than the average heavyweight, Jones managed to capture the heavyweight gold, becoming a champion in four weight classes. Therefore, he is very familiar with the power certain boxers have in the premiere division of boxing.

‘Captain Hook’ thinks there is one man who has the power to beat the former unified heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua. The British boxer is looking to make one last run at the titles after losing them to Oleksandr Usyk last year. However, he started of April with victory on points over Jermaine Franklin and will now be looking for a new opponent. Despite this, Jones thinks he should stay away from one particular boxer.

What was Roy Jones Jr’s advice to Anthony Joshua?

In a recent interview with iD Boxing, Jones suggested that Joshua should avoid fighting Deontay Wilder due to his powerful punches that can cause serious damage. Instead, he believes that Joshua should focus on improving his defense and work on dealing with punches coming back at him. Jones Jr. expressed his admiration for Joshua as a fighter and stated that he believes he is a great boxer. However, he also acknowledged that Joshua has some weaknesses that need to be addressed before facing someone like Wilder.

“I love ‘AJ’ to death, and I think he’s a great fighter, I like Wilder a little bit. I think Fury is still top of the class, I think him and Usyk are at the top of the class because they’re the ones holding belts. His issue right now is dealing with punches coming back at him, so you don’t want to fight Wilder. Those punches that will be coming at you from him are different to anybody else in the division, so he’s got to go get that taken care of before he goes in front of Wilder,” he said.

Roy Jones Jr.’s advice to Anthony Joshua is sound. While ‘AJ’ is a talented boxer, he needs to be prepared to face a fighter like Wilder. ‘The Bronze Bomber’ is one of the hardest punchers in the heavyweight division and can knock out any man with a single blow. It remains to be seen whether Joshua will heed Jones Jr.’s advice and avoid Wilder for now.
