Ryan Garcia, one of the top-rated active lightweights, missed out on all the action in 2021 after beating Luke Campbell for the WBC Interim strap. He was supposed to head towards the best matchups at 135 lbs, especially for a world championship shot. However, things didn’t work out well for the youngster, as he got sidelined due to an arm injury and mental health issues.
While it’s 2022 now, ‘KingRy’ appears to have regained his good spirits and has vowed to return to action shortly. After teasing a potential return date in April, Ryan Garcia impressed a lot of his followers by flexing hand speed in a training drill.

In an active record of 21-0, Garcia has 18 knockouts in his favor. Furthermore, his last three opponents have been absolute A-listers, and a win over Campbell verified Garcia’s position in the title race. But he lost his WBC mandatory spot due to the long hiatus from the action. Hence, Garcia needs to reclaim his worth, and only then he can expect a shot at the world title.

‘KingRy’ and his team were trying to finalize a fight against Isaac Cruz on his comeback. However. ‘Pitbull’ Cruz seemed uninterested and didn’t offer himself to the fight, which wouldn’t have fetched him a world championship. It urged Garcia to divert his attention towards the newly crowned champion, George Kambosos Jr. ‘Ferocious’ Kambosos Jr. beat Teofimo Lopez to earn the unified lightweight belts in November 2021 and he’s now at the peak of the division.
However, Garcia seemed unfazed by Kambosos Jr.’s achievements. He had claimed to stop him within seven rounds in a potential fight. Well, he shall not receive an immediate title shot. So, Ryan Garcia may have to go for a non-title fight, claim a splendid win, and re-validate his spot amongst the other top-tier names of the division.
