Ryan Garcia is no stranger to extravagant pre-fight antics, but leading up to tonight’s bout, the Victorville native appeared unusually composed—until he made a jaw-dropping entrance in an iconic old-style Batmobile, from the 1989 movie Batman starring Michael Keaton, stunning fans and media alike in Times Square. While the move had all the flair expected from ‘King Ry,’ it seems to have backfired in more ways than one.

Following Devin Haney’s painfully dull win over Jose Ramirez, Garcia left behind the Batmobile in the congested heart of Manhattan and entered the ring to face Rolly Romero. But in a shocking twist, it was Romero who flipped the script with a vicious second-round knockdown that rattled Garcia and the fight’s momentum.

Rolly Romero makes things even worse

Worse yet for Garcia, early scorecards suggest Romero is not only holding his own but might actually be pulling ahead with a performance few saw coming. It’s worth noting that Garcia was heavily favored to win the fight going into tonight’s action. Regardless, Romero’s aggression and ring control have visibly slowed Garcia down, putting the outcome in serious doubt. Then there was the second-round brutal knockdown that, even though it didn’t hurt Garcia, left him shaky.

If Romero does pull off the upset, it could pour cold water on the highly anticipated Garcia vs. Haney clash reportedly being lined up for later this year, casting uncertainty over one of boxing’s most hyped rivalries. To make matters worse, fans seem to be poking fun at Garcia’s Batmobile stunt before the fight on social media.

Ryan Garcia got hit where it hurts

Upon watching the clip of Garcia’s arrival in a Batmobile, swarmed by a horde of New York’s finest, instead of getting called Batman, he got labeled Robin. One user wrote, “He robbin thoe is what he’s stating😂.” Notably, Garcia wasn’t driving the car, as he wore boxing gloves, and someone from his entourage was behind the wheel.

Is Ryan Garcia's showmanship becoming a distraction from his boxing skills?

Another user brought up the same point, writing, “Why is he in Robbin’s seat tho 😂😂.” Robin was, of course, Batman’s sidekick, which Garcia inevitably ended up becoming.

Someone else hit where it hurt Garcia the most. The user commented, “Then got knocked tf out in round 2.” The last time Garcia was dropped was against Gervonta Davis. What made it more embarrassing for him was that he was predicted to win heavily on most betting platforms.

The next user mocked Garcia for the knockdown as well. The user wrote, “All this to get knocked out btw.” The worst part is that the 26-year-old couldn’t recover from it.

Another user reminded Garcia that Batman doesn’t get knocked down. The user commented, “Batman ain’t get put on his pockets 😂😂.” It’s yet to be seen whether ‘King Ry’ can recover from the KD.

That said, it appears Garcia’s antics have caught up to him, as his Batman stunt fails to impress the fanbase. It’s yet to be seen whether he can recover from the KD to win the Romero fight. What did you think about the Batmobile?
