Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney locked horns on April 20th this year, and the former managed to defeat ‘The Dream’. Garcia was on cloud nine after his victory against Haney. He even bought a luxury McLaren car a few days back given the hefty paycheck he received for the bout. However, a recent development has cost a fortune for the boxer and he has to pay huge sums for it.

‘KingRy’ was tested positive twice for a performance-enhancing drug, Ostarine, in the fight week. The investigation has been going on since April, and now it has finally reached a conclusion. Garcia vs. Haney was ruled as a no-contest by the NYSAC, and Haney will get back his undefeated status. Along with that, Haney and Garcia were supposed to weigh 140 pounds during the weigh-in since it was promoted as a WBC super lightweight title fight. However, the Victorville native weighed more than 143 pounds. As a consequence of everything, Garcia has had to pay a substantial sum.

Boxing matchmaker Rick Glaser shared a post on X detailing how much the fight with Devin Haney has cost him following the New York State Athletic Commission finding Garcia guilty of using PEDs. He had already paid $1.5 million out to Devin Haney for coming in way over the weight limit before the fight. Now he has to pay up some more. As per Glaser, the boxer has to repay $1.2 million to Golden Boy Promotions which was Garcia’s purse for the bout. Then he will have to pay Haney $1.5 million, which he already did before the fight. Plus, an amount of $10,000 has to be paid to the NYSAC as well. All of this amounts to roughly $2.7 million in penalty. But that isn’t even all.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old fighter is not allowed to fight for one year as part of his suspension which will end on April 20, 2025. Losing the opportunity to fight for an additional year also means missing the opportunity to make more money. This will now cost him a few more millions in loss of pay.

This year is not going so well for the boxer. First, he was devastated upon learning of his mother’s cancer diagnosis. After being charged with ‘felony vandalism,’ he was forced to pay $15,000 to cover the damages. And now for the PED debacle. In spite of this, Garcia continues to maintain his innocence and refuses to accept the legitimacy of the order.

Ryan Garcia continues to deny PED use

The boxer has been posting a lot on social media since this news blew up. He has been showing disappointment in how things are turning out for him. In one of his posts after the ruling, he wrote, “I really hope boxing good without me I fought everyone and was willing to They have turned there back on me I’m innocent I stand by that I don’t care what everyone says Gun yo my head I say I didn’t take PED’s.”

Meanwhile, Devin Haney, after the results arrived today, thanked the commission and fans for supporting him through this. He shared his happiness in getting justice and plans to enjoy this time with his family and friends. But what do you think about the figures Rick Glaser posted?
