Former WBC interim lightweight title holder Ryan Garcia has been a major proponent of mental wellbeing. In fact, he recently extended his support to the singer, Shawn Mendes.

Garcia took to social media to wish Mendes on his birthday. He posted a picture of Mendes and himself on Instagram, and wrote in the caption, “Shawn I love you, brother. Posting this to show my support for you and the decision you made to take time away from your shows.”

Moreover, he also commended him for giving importance to his mental health. Garcia said, “Thank you for showing that taking time for your mental health is a time to reflect and get better for the future.”

Ryan Garcia talks about mental health

‘KingRy’ has always been a vocal advocate of the importance of mental well-being. In fact, Garcia himself suffered from bouts of depression. He even revealed that he first felt the symptoms after his fight against Luke Campbell.

In a recent interview, he opened up about dealing with depression. Garcia said, “When I was deep in it, I didn’t think I was gonna live. I was so depressive and I went to bad habits.”

Moreover, Garcia also mentioned that he took to alcohol as a coping mechanism. He further added, “It was so bad, so intense, that I thought maybe I just rather not be here.”
