Garcia has a tough choice to make this weekend. He was presented with an alternative path that would lead him to the WBO title instead. In the weekend, the WBO announced its plans to invite top-ranked boxers to compete for the mandatory position, eventually ordering an eliminator between Garcia, the number-two contender, and Ghana’s Emmanuel number-three on Monday.

While the WBC has made it clear from their language that the winner of Garcia vs Campbell will go to get a shot at the real title. However, right now, they need to find an opponent for Haney. Haney’s reign over the title was restored earlier this year via email.

The unbeaten Las Vegas-based lightweight was on the shelf for over 6 months. He was recovering from a shoulder injury he picked up in his 12-round fight against Alfredo Santiago last November. Haney had to honor the mandatory obligations against Fortuna. But instead, he agreed to vacate the title in exchange for the “Emeritus” status. Which means he would be guaranteed a shot at the title as soon as he returns to the ring.

All in all, Ryan Garcia has agreed to face Luke Campbell for the interim shot. Who do you think will fight for the legitimate title?
