‘Sad’ News Leaves Boxing World Devastated as Young Prospect Dies at Age 25 Following Knockout Loss

It surely is disheartening to see athletes suffer a fatal injury in the ring. Junior welterweight prospect Luis Quinones passed away at the age of 25 on September 29, 2022. Quinones recently faced Jose Munoz on September 24, 2022. The fight at the Coliseo Elias Chegwin in Barranquilla saw the young boxer lose by KO. It should also be mentioned that this was also the first loss in Quinones’ professional career.
In the eighth round of the fight, Quinones seemed unsteady on his feet after being badly injured. He was quickly sent to the canvas, ending the battle. And had to be taken from the ring on a stretcher. Meanwhile, Munoz also rushed in to check on Quinones.

He was then taken to the North General Clinic in Barranquilla. It was here that the doctors found out that he had grievous head injuries, including a subdural hematoma. Moreover, Quinones had to immediately undergo surgery for the same.
Quinones was in a coma after the surgery and was declared brain dead on Thursday.
It was reported that Quinones was inspired by Julio Cesar Chavez to pick up professional boxing and left his hometown in Barrancabermeja to pursue a career in the same.

It seems certain that most fans have been saddened by Quinones’ death. On the other hand, the sport cannot be blamed, as every athlete puts themselves in some form of danger every time they perform.
