

The now-viral video of tennis superstar Serena Williams’ training with the GOAT, Mike Tyson, set the social media on fire. However, in a tweet from 2009, Williams mentioned that she found it weird to watch boxing matches.

A fan @Karceno took to Twitter to ask Williams if she attended boxing matches.

Williams responded by saying that she does not attend boxing matches. Talking about the sport, she further added, “Its weird watching people fight beat up each other and I’m cheering.”

In fact, she even compared the sport of boxing to Roman gladiators fighting in the Colosseum.

When Serena Williams trained with Mike Tyson
In a sports crossover that fans did not know they needed, Williams once laced on boxing gloves and trained with ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet‘.

Tyson shared a post of the duo training together at The Boca Raton resort in Florida. He was also careful to mention his training partner’s physical prowess, saying, “She has some power.”

The clip shows Tyson initially teaching Williams the correct form and also instructing her on a few basic punches. Tyson then proceeds to hold the punching bag while Williams unleashes a merciless barrage of 77 punches before stopping.

‘Iron’ Mike Tyson was all praise for his eminent training partner. He took to Twitter to address his admiration, saying, “Wouldn’t want to get in the ring with this GOAT.”
Tennis stars who took up boxing
Williams was not the only Tennis player who trained in boxing.

The former WTA Rank No 1, Maria Sharapova, took up boxing after her dope ban in 2016. The star posted a series of videos practicing with her trainer, Tommy Cassano.
Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios also pondered on the idea of swapping his tennis racquet for boxing gloves.
