It’s the perfect revenge story. Why isn’t there a movie being made about it? Especially because seven long years after Muhammad Ali’s death, Mike Tyson finally revealed what Muhhamad Ali told him after suffering a devastating loss at the hands of Larry Holmes. Five years before ‘Iron’ Mike made his debut, Ali fought ‘The Easton Assassin,’ losing the fight via stoppage in the tenth round. The fight marked a crucial juncture in Larry’s career, as he had to defeat his mentor and friend Ali.

For Ali, everything went downhill from there on out, prompting Mike to exact revenge for his mentor in 1988. What’s more, people are well aware of the scene when Ali walks up to Mike, asking him to beat up Larry during Mike’s fight. However, not a lot of people are aware of the fact that the conversation began way before that. In a recent interview with Patrick Bet-David, the former world champion tells all.

While appearing in the VAULT Conference Interview with Patrick, an audience member posed an interesting question to ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet.’ The person asked Mike about the fight when he avenged Muhammad Ali against Larry. Revealing he was just fourteen at the time, Mike claimed they went to see Ali’s fight, where he got beat up.

“I was 14 when that happened. Oh, this is a funny story. We went to the fight, close circuit, Ali got the s**t kicked out of him,” said Mike. He went on to claim that on their way back home – there was pin-drop silence in the car. However, the next morning, Ali told him something that set him on the path to revenge. “We woke up, and he [Ali] said you’re going to avenge me,” said Mike. Moreover, years after avenging Ali, Mike revealed how Ali outshined him.

Mike reveals the only way Ali outshines him

Back in 2019, Mike appeared in an interview with Michael Rapaport, claiming Ali wasn’t the kind of boxer who ever gives up. Even when Ali was getting beaten up in the fight against Larry Holmes, Ali kept going. “He’s not gonna quit. You gotta kill him. He won’t quit, even if he was getting beat up every round, getting the s**t kicked out of him by Larry Holmes,” said Mike.

Later in the interview, Mike suggested he used to think of himself as the bad man, but Ali outshined him in that aspect. “I always like to think I’m a bad motherf****r, vicious motherf****r. I don’t give a f**k. But that’s a part of Ali that’s what he overshines me,” Mike told Rapaport.

One take at a time

The first time boxing captured my attention, it was because of a line I heard in the film 'Rocky Balboa', a film surrounding boxing. The line went like this, "But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.
