Boxers spend their time tirelessly learning different techniques of throwing and defending punches for many years to master the “Sweet science”. Subsequently, they become trained for combat. But Shakur Stevenson is of the opinion that not all boxers can throw down outside the squared circle. A street fight is quite distinct from a boxing bout. As the combatant is not restricted by any sanctions; one can throw any strike at any place.

In that instance, a boxer may not be trained to tackle unpredictable moves. And to survive in a street fight, the boxer must showcase a degree of bravery. However, Stevenson claims that many boxers do not possess that confidence.

It can’t be denied that boxers are modern-day gladiators. To argue that they do not possess bravery would not be coherent. Moreover, Stevenson agrees with the fact that certain boxers have the courage to engage in a fight inside the ring, but it isn’t the case when it comes to an altercation outside the ring.  @dantheboxingman took to Twitter to report the featherweight champion’s comments.

In an interview, he stated, “Some boxers be p*ssy! They don’t know how to street fight! A lot of boxers have heart to get in the ring, but a motherf*cker press them out in the street they(the boxer) will tuck their tail. I’ve seen it.”

Despite him being a boxer, he was candid about his opinion on other boxers; which adds merit to his argument. Not to mention, a setup of a boxing bout is quite distinct from an unpredictable street fight. So, it would not be a surprise if a boxer does not fair well in an altercation.

Claressa Shields agrees with Shakur Stevenson

Steveson’s statement is not necessarily unpopular as former boxing world champion, Claressa Shields, is of the same opinion as him. Shields took notice of the comments made by him and could not help make her reaction public. Responding to the Tweet, she stated, “Bro not lying!”
