Shakur Stevenson Picks Keyshawn Davis and Teofimo Lopez to Win in Las Vegas

Keyshawn Davis is poised for victory, and so will Teofimo Lopez triumph, each in their own unique way. That’s a neat verdict handed over early this morning. Teofimo Lopez will defend his light welterweight title from Jamaine Ortiz sometime at the Michelob ULTRA Arena.
Another title defense joins the headliner as the co-main event. Keyshawn Davis will stake a claim to the vacant IBF USBA lightweight title, apart from defending the ones he currently holds from Jose Pedraza. ‘The Takeover’ moved up a division in 2022. He became a champion last year when he defeated Josh Taylor and took home the WBO and Ring titles. ‘The Businessman’, on the other hand, saw his deal go sour when his last title defense against Nahir Albright on October 15 was declared a no-decision. Nevertheless, both Davis and Lopez remain heavy favorites to win their bouts. Especially when it comes to the three-division champion Shakur Stevenson, the signs on the wall are unmistakable.

Shakur Stevenson wrote that Keyshawn Davis would score an early stoppage against Jose Pedraza. But at the same time, he also stated that Teofimo Lopez would pin Jamaine Ortiz, taking him apart till the final bell. “Keyshawn by stoppage tonight and Teo goofy ass gone pick buddy apart tonight,” he said.

Some may argue that ‘Sugar’ Stevenson’s sentiments resonate due to the fact that both Davis and Lopez happen to be his promotion stable mates. But it also remains a fact that he might not change his opinion in a million for close friend Keyshawn Davis. However, the same cannot be asserted when it comes to ‘The Takeover’.

The two have been through some back and forth in the past. Though not long ago, Lopez lauded the three-division champion for his skills.
The Race to Come Up First
‘The Takeover’ will meet ‘The Technician’ for the second time. The last time, they squared up in amateur capacity during the National Golden Gloves. Lopez won the day on May 16, 2015. Thus, he undoubtedly aspires to replicate the success a second time. Additionally, given that he aspires to fight someone like Terence Crawford, the outcome of the fight is all together critical.

He might have only ten bouts (including the no-contest one) under his belt. However, Keyshawn Davis, a Tokyo Olympic silver medalist, has built such a strong resume that it’s hard to ignore. Roughly a year after he professionally debuted, he became a WBO intercontinental lightweight champion. In Jose Pedraza, he faces a former two-division champion. However, given the 34-year-old Puerto Rican’s questionable performance during the last three outings, Shakur Stevenson’s verdict won’t appear too wide of the mark.
As January drew to a close, a startling revelation awaited the entire boxing community. Shakur Stevenson announced that he is retiring from professional boxing. In what was to become a much-debated bout, he fought Edwin De Los Santos on November 16 at the T-Mobile Arena for the vacant WBC lightweight title. The New Jersey-born southpaw had been eyeing a big match ever since. Notwithstanding his shocking statement, the young boxer remains in touch with the latest goings-on.
