WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson never shies away from speaking his mind on X — sometimes a little too freely. When he’s not dishing out jabs in the ring, the Newark native is usually scrolling his way through his feed. But this time, one of his sharp replies to an analyst’s take might’ve backfired, earning him a brand-new nickname: ‘Twitterson.’ Let’s just say, it’s not exactly one he’ll be adding to his ring introductions anytime soon.

How did it all start? Analyst Dan Canobbio was simply minding his own business, hosting an interview with Chris Algieri on his Inside Boxing Live show on YouTube. During their chat, the conversation shifted to Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis’ recent victory over Uisma Lima. Naturally, the chat turned to what’s next for Ennis, and when fans might finally see him face the division’s boogeyman, Vergil Ortiz Jr. This, especially after Ennis publicly called him out following the win.

Shakur Stevenson needs a new hobby

Algieri claimed that despite it being a big fight, it may not happen anytime soon. “I don’t think we’re going to see Ortiz next,” Algieri said confidently. “I’m being pessimistic. I don’t think [we’ll] see that next. I don’t know if the powers that be are going to let that happen yet, without letting it marinate a little more before the money can be humongous.” Canobbio then raised a key question: What does Ennis really have to offer Ortiz besides money?

“Vergil has been pretty clear that he wants to win our title,” Canobbio said during the interview. “He’s beat Madrimov, he’s beat Bohachuk, and he’s looking at Boots like, what do you have for me, besides money? Like, what do you offer me? Boots needs Vergil more than Vergil needs Boots. Would you agree with that?” While Algieri agreed with Canobbio’s take, the latter later posted a clip of this segment on X, which quickly caught Shakur Stevenson’s attention.

The WBC lightweight champion wasted no time blasting the pair for, in his view, derailing a potential mega fight. “This [is] how y’all mess big fights up, who cares who needs who more. We all need each other from a boxing perspective,” Stevenson wrote on X. “This convo [is] irrelevant and doesn’t help make the fight happen!” Seeing his and Algieri’s opinions dismissed despite their reasoning, Canobbio clapped back with a witty jab… and a new nickname for the champ.

“Thanks for checking in, Twitterson,” the boxing analyst wrote. Never one to back down, Stevenson fired right back: “Look at this dweeb, ok Peter Pan.” Canobbio then wrapped up the exchange with another dig: “You need a hobby, bro.”

While the X feud provided some unexpected entertainment, Ortiz Jr. is staying focused on his next challenge – a clash with Erickson Lubin at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth on November 8. As for Stevenson, he may have a few battles of his own to worry about.

Zab Judah claims Stevenson would dominate Teofimo Lopez

Shakur Stevenson and Teofimo Lopez have been teasing a potential fight for a while now. Even though nothing has been set in stone quite yet, former two-division world champion Zab Judah is confident the WBC lightweight champion’s skill set would prove too much for the WBO junior welterweight titleholder.

“[Stevenson] is going to dismantle him,” Judah told MillCity Boxing. “With the type of style Teo possesses, he’s going to break him up. You can’t beat what you can’t hit. That is impossible — that boy [Shakur] ain’t nothing to mess around with, he’s sent out of the matrix, pulling away and hitting you.”

Judah even suggested Madison Square Garden as the perfect venue, calling it “neutral grounds for both guys.” Praising Stevenson’s partnership with Terence Crawford, he added, “They’re creating a superhero machine… breaking records, astronomical numbers, and doing this as a team.”

Having said that, it appears that before Shakur Stevenson squares off against Teofimo Lopez, he has picked up a beef with boxing analyst Dan Canobbio. Whether this feud escalates is yet to be seen, but for now, it’s mere entertainment for users on X. What did you make of their exchange?
