Shane Mosley, the veteran boxer who almost knocked out Floyd Mayweather once, revealed a secret tip he gave to Ryan Garcia before his big fight against Devin Haney on April 20. This advice seems to have paid off spectacularly. But what was this advice that “Sugar” gave to Garcia?
Just a month prior, Mosley advised Garcia to fine-tune his footwork. Garcia seems to have heeded the advice of the former WBC light middleweight champion. In the ring at Barclays Center, Garcia looked sharper than ever. His movements were fluid, his strikes precise. Despite not clinching the title due to his weight gain, Garcia’s performance was undeniably improved. Could this strategic edge be the reason Garcia outperformed expectations against Haney?

In the shared chat, Mosley’s message to Garcia was direct and tactical. “I am going to tell you before it’s too late. This fight is going to come down to how good your footwork is. That doesn’t mean moving away from him. Being explosive front and back and side to side being able to land your power punches and do what he wants you to follow him around the ring while he tries to potshot you to death be on the middle of the ring or him trying to pursue you your quicker than him but his feet might be a little quicker than yours work on that fast twitch muscle you will be happy,” Mosley advised.

Garcia’s response was simple yet appreciative, reflecting his respect for Mosley’s seasoned insights. “Thank you Shane!!!” he replied. Indeed, Ryan Garcia listened to Shane. He came forward looking for the fight. He was explosive front and back. This even surprised Isaac Cruz, who didn’t expect Ryan to do this and frustrate Haney.

Will Ryan Garcia continue to surprise us, or will Cruz’s insights give him an edge in their potential matchup? What do you think?
