Mikey Garcia began the contest on the back foot. He employed some slick head movements and defense in the first few rounds. But simultaneously, he made adjustments to go toe to toe with Martin.
The southpaw boxer knew Garcia would go for the big hits from the first bell itself. As a result, he kept his straight lefts ready to counterattack the boxing elite. Along with his prime punch, Martin even came up with some hooks and he attacked Garcia’s chest on a few occasions.
In the later rounds, Garcia turned desperate to put Martin on the canvas. This worked in the southpaw’s favor. Eventually, Martin’s counterattacks hit the mark, and he evaded Garcia’s punches.
By the end of round 10, it was clear that Martin had the edge over Garcia in this fight. Hence, the judges’ decision didn’t come as a shock.

The 33-year-old looked extremely slow throughout this 10-round contest. Given the fact that he was up against a contender who wasn’t as big a draw as some of the names on his list, the loss came as a surprise.
Citing that, it seems Mikey Garcia’s time is finally up in the sport of boxing. If not, he could look to explore a move back to the lower weight classes, as he has suffered both defeats at 147.
