Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali were two greats who defined boxing during their eras. Ali was a pioneer of the sport during the 1960s and 70s, bringing an unprecedented change in the sport and shaping it for the future. Tyson, on the other hand, carried the torch passed down by The People’s Champ and became one of the most fearsome boxers ever.

This has led many fans to wonder who would come out on top if the two fought together. However, former heavyweight champion and the person who fought both Tyson and Ali, Larry Holmes once revealed how Tyson would fare against the boxers during the 1970s.
Larry Holmes shares how Mike Tyson would fare against other boxers
In an interview, he stated that although ‘Iron Mike’ would beat him, he wouldn’t do too well against the likes of Ali, Joe Frazier, and George Foreman.
“I ain’t knocking Mike Tyson. Joe Frazier would beat him up in his own style, Joe liked guys like that. Ail, slap him all day with the jab. Kenny Norton? Too strong. George Foreman? 2 seconds.” said Holmes.

He also added that Tyson’s style was not suitable for beating Foreman, who needed to be outboxed and not out-powered. “He hit too hard anybody come at George Foreman you gotta box him like Ali did like I would do. You can’t stand there with Foreman and take no punches George will take your head off. I mean bang bang like the kitchen sink he’s hitting you with.” He added.

Holmes has faced both Tyson and Ali in the squared circle. In one of the most iconic upsets in boxing, Holmes beat Ali in their match, securing a TKO win in the 10th round. However, he was knocked out for the first time in his career after he faced Tyson in 1988. Despite this, he feels that Ali and other boxers in the 70s were superior to Tyson and that Iron Mike would not stand any chance against the likes of Foreman and Fraizer.
