Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero is experiencing a resurgence in his boxing career. Following setbacks against Gervonta Davis and Isaac Cruz, the 29-year-old has bounced back impressively with consecutive victories over Manuel Jaimes and Ryan Garcia—the latter marking the most significant win of his career to date. However, as new doors open up for the Las Vegas native, he seems to have taken pity on his 26-year-old opponent.

Garcia and Romero headlined the Times Square card last Friday in New York. Despite being dismissed as the underdog, Romero defeated ‘King Ry’ via unanimous decision after flooring him with his own signature left hook in the second round, creating an upset. This loss has severely modified the trajectory of Garcia’s career, as the planned rematch against former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney now seems uncertain. However, Romero still suggests that the pair should move forward with their fight, even though Ryan Garcia lost to him. Meanwhile, Romero doesn’t seem to be much of a fan of Devin Haney.

This is mainly because of the lackluster performance Haney presented on the undercard of his fight against Ryan Garcia. Haney adopted an overly defensive approach to the fight against Jose Ramirez, avoiding engagement at all costs, which made the fight absolutely boring. Interestingly, even the commentators were poking fun at Haney during the fight. 

Regardless, during his appearance in The Danza Project podcast, Romero seems to have taken pity on Garcia by claiming he can still beat Haney, humiliating ‘The Dream.’ “Ryan beats Devin Haney again,” he said during the podcast. “Ryan is going to go on a winning streak now, you can tell. Ryan is a tremendous fighter. They can say whatever they want, but I know him well.”

This comes after Romero’s statement about Devin Haney, where he trashed the former undisputed lightweight champion. 

Rolly Romero dismisses fight against ‘Track Star’ Devin Haney

Rolly Romero isn’t interested in facing Devin Haney anytime soon, and he’s not shy about saying why. Fresh off his upset victory over Ryan Garcia in Times Square, Romero took aim at Haney during an interview with TMZ, bluntly stating, “Haney wasn’t a big fight to begin with. He wasn’t a big fight when he fought Ryan. And he’s definitely not a big fight after he just became a track star.”

Romero doubled down on his dismissal of Haney’s appeal, asking, “So, you tell me, real quick, are you excited to see anybody fight Devin Haney?” When the interviewer replied, “Not right now,” Romero added, “Devin Haney had one exciting fight, and that was when he got his a** kicked by Ryan Garcia.” Instead, Romero expressed strong interest in a rematch with Gervonta Davis, saying he’s been waiting for that opportunity since their 2022 clash.

That said, Rolando Romero doesn’t seem to have much respect for Devin Haney. However, whether Ryan Garcia can beat Haney in a rematch is yet to be seen. Do you agree with Romero?
