WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney has voiced his opinion on Ryan Garcia’s behavior after his victory. The undefeated champion explained why his compatriot would not welcome a fight against him despite being the mandatory.
Ryan Garcia beat Luke Campbell and became mandatory for Haney’s WBC belt. However, after the fight, he chose to call out WBO champion Gervonta Davis instead. This has left many surprised since Garcia and Haney have a history together.
Speaking to iFL TV, ‘The Dream’ gave his take on the situation. He said, “It didn’t surprise me. That’s doesn’t surprise me that he’s willing to go to fight Tank. He’s already said that I was not on his hit list the last time he said this, and he’s showing it.”
The champion added, “Talk is cheap. Action show, you know, who he really wants to fight. And his actions are showing it.”

‘The Dream’ then spoke about Garcia’s most recent performance against Luke Campbell and claimed he noticed some flaws. He said, “Obviously I saw flaws, I mean, he got dropped in there. But he also, you know, some good came out of it because he showed he had heart, he had grit and you can’t count him out.”
He then said if it was him in that ring, Garcia would have lost. Haney felt that ‘Cool Hand’ did not put the pressure on him after the knockdown, and that’s what cost him dearly. Although he gave the Englishman the respect he deserves.
Thus, we now know how Devin Haney feels about Ryan Garcia choosing to fight Gervonta Davis over him. However, he doesn’t seem too bothered by it and will look to extending his streak with the hope of meeting Garcia in the future. Do you think Ryan Garcia should fight Devin Haney instead of Gervonta Davis?
