After reigning over three-weight classes, Gervonta Davis appears to be aiming at the 147 lbs roster and his prime target can be the former world champion, Keith Thurman. In the wake of handing Mario Barrios his maiden loss on June 26, Davis expressed his interest in staying at the 140 lbs unit.

However, as he was always open to shifting divisions, ‘One Time’ Thurman might have allured him to take a step up. That said, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe, who is also open to hosting the fight, has passed his approval on social media.

While Thurman holds an alluring record of 29-1 and has only lost to the great Manny Pacquiao in his pro-career, Ellerbe believes Davis can also vanquish the Florida native, via KO. Besides, the promoter has claimed that it will be an easy deal.

Following his loss to ‘Pac-Man’ in 2019, Keith Thurman hasn’t appeared in the ring. Hence, a return against Gervonta Davis can be massive.

Nevertheless, the fantasy fight is yet far away from an official confirmation. Amid several options onboard, neither Thurman nor Davis has said something static regarding their potential clash. Hence, as of now, this bout continues to be a rumor.

Keith Thurman doesn’t appear relevant or mandatory to the championship picture now. However, the top-tier figure can rightly opt to face a world titlist to regain his lost status. However, all the 147 lbs champions are officially booked for their upcoming defenses, leaving limited options for ‘One Time’. Therefore, a fight against Gervonta Davis can be the right option.

Nevertheless, Davis has titles in the super featherweight (WBA Super), lightweight (WBA), and super-lightweight (WBA) divisions. Hence, he has umpteen mandatory challengers to go against. Besides, unification bouts will also bring him several potential matchups. Thus, Thurman might just be another option for Davis at this stage.
