IBF and WBA welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis didn’t face many issues as he defeated former champion Eimantas Stanionis last Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. After getting dropped in round 6, the Lithuanian boxer never returned to action from his corner. This fight did multiple things for the Philadelphia native. 

One, he successfully showcased his dominance in the division by decisively beating and a previously undefeated boxer. Second, his performance has shut down all the critics, questioning his skills following the fight against Karen Chukhadzhian late last year. And finally, doors to bigger fights have now opened up for Ennis. 

If Eddie Hearn, Ennis’ promoter, is to be believed, he is making every effort possible to bring two-weight undisputed champion Terence Crawford into the ring against Ennis. However, that’s unlikely to happen anytime soon, since he is scheduled to fight Canelo Alvarez in September later this year. So, this begs the question: Who will Ennis end up fighting next?

Well, there is WBO titleholder Brian Norman Jr., with whom Ennis has had a long-standing feud. However, no clear opponent has been revealed for the 27-year-old boxer. Yet, Ennis’ father, ‘Bozy’ Ennis, has confirmed when his son will return to action. Steve Kim of ‘3 Knockdown Rule’ has revealed Ennis’ intention on social media. 

“Spoke to Bozy Ennis father/trainer/manager of ‘Boots’ Ennis, says that the plan is for his son to return [to] the ring in the mid-summer. ‘The more active he is, the sharper he is.’” Kim wrote on X. In the meantime, Eddie Hearn has shared his perspective on Jaron Ennis. 

Eddie Hearn brands Jaron Ennis undefeatable

Eddie Hearn didn’t hold back in praising Jaron Ennis after his dominant win over Eimantas Stanionis, calling the 27-year-old undefeatable across multiple weight classes. “This guy ain’t losing at ’47, he ain’t losing at ’54, he ain’t losing at ’60,” Hearn declared at the post-fight press conference in Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall.

 “I am still mesmerized by what I saw in there tonight,” Hearn added. “Just one of the greatest performances from, in my opinion – well, now, without question – a pound-for-pound great fighter.” Now, one more step closer to undisputed, Hearn believed Ennis is destined for greatness. 

“One day you’ll be talking about Jaron Ennis in the same way you talk about all those people that have graced this great venue,” Hearn predicted.

That said, Jaron Ennis appears to be in the mood to stay busy rather than wait for an opportunity to drop on his lap. Whether he eventually achieves his dream of becoming fully unified in the four belt era is yet to be seen. Until then, who do you think Ennis will fight next?
