The two fighters went at it from the first bell and tried to impose their superiority by starting fast. However, Cheeseman had the slight upper hand since he found his rhythm early. Metcalf struggled to land any significant punches and took a fair bit of damage from Cheeseman’s counters.

As the fight progressed into the fourth, Cheeseman showed better precision and quality. And this resulted in the biggest moment of the fight. Cheeseman rocked Metcalf with a solid right hand in the second minute of the fourth and it appeared as though ‘The Big Cheese’ would finish the fight then and there.

However, ‘Kid Shamrock’ survived the barrage from Cheeseman and tried to fight his way back in the fifth round. He showed grit and bravery and arguably won the next three rounds. Thus, he grew into the fight. So much so, he hurt Cheeseman in the last minute of the seventh and had him surviving till the bell.

The fight clearly lived up to the expectations as both fighters landed their fair share. However, the cut above Cheeseman’s right eye worsened as the fight went into the last few rounds. Despite this, the former champion didn’t allow the Liverpudlian to gain control of the fight.

Going into the championship rounds, there was nothing separating the two fighters. Both traded blows throughout the eleventh round until Cheeseman landed a punch from the gods. Right at the bell, ‘The Big Cheese’ landed a powerful left that sent the Scouser to the ground.

Therefore, after a blistering fight, Ted Cheeseman regained his British title and handed ‘Kid Shamrock’ his first defeat. However, Metcalf pushed him all the way and proved to be a tough opponent.
