 New lightweight king Teofimo Lopez has spoken about Vasyl Lomachenko and his excuses for his defeat. The undefeated fighter spoke bluntly about the former champion and gave his initial reactions to the accusations and comments Lomachenko made.

The two fought in October 2020, and in a shock result, ‘The Takeover’ beat the Ukrainian. However, Lopez was the deserved winner and made a big statement to the division. Subsequently, Lomachenko came out with bizarre accusations of bribery to the judges since there was a drastic difference in one scorecard.

However, speaking to Fight Hub TV, Lopez said, “Lomachenko is a tremendous fighter, you know, overall. However, you’re not acting like a true champion doing those things or saying such, such… such things you know.”

Lopez did react to the comments when the news first broke out. However, those were sarcastic remarks just to shut down the rumors. These comments, on the other hand, showed what he thought of the Ukrainian’s accusations. He then said to ‘Loma’, “Move on, you know. That’s all I can say, man.”

Why did Vasyl Lomachenko accuse Teofimo Lopez of bribing the judges?

The Ukrainian did not agree with the decision and made no secret of it. He spoke about it after the fight and showed his dismay at the outcome. Lomachenko felt that though he started slowly, he went on to dominate the later rounds which should have given him the decision.

However, fans and followers of the sport thought otherwise, and in the end, Lopez got a deserved victory over the champion. Furthermore, as a champion, ‘The Takeover’ is embracing the limelight. Therefore, he feels that Lomachenko should have taken the loss like a champion.

Ever since the controversy, Lomachenko claimed he was mistranslated, and that it was not what he actually said. However, he has still been bitter about the fight and it wouldn’t surprise anyone if the Ukrainian did feel that way.
